Episode 48
Sailor Moon R
Raye's Day in the Spotlight
Jap.54 "The Cultural Festival Is Just For Me!? Queen Rei Sings All Out"
Artemis, Luna, Mina, Serena, Amy and Lita all decide to swing by the temple to see what Raye's up to but are told by her grandpa that she's been really busy after school lately getting ready for the school festival.
As they head over to Raye's school they find Raye yelling at everyone for being incompetent and not doing their jobs right. Serena and Amy ask her what's wrong but Raye ponders if she should just do everything herself!
Later on as Raye is practising a song she wrote, "Call My Name" she stops suddenly and yells at the two girls in charge of lighting for choosing the wrong colour. The girls seem completely clueless though and just worship the ground Raye walks on.
In a tree outside the school, Anne and Alan watch and plan to attack the festival and steal everyone's energy.
That night all the girls gather with Raye at her temple and tell her how excited they are about her debut. Raye tells them that she's excited as well and is really happy that Grandpa will be making it as well.
When asked how she came up with all of the songs she wrote for the talent show Raye tells them that it was all so easy due to her being naturally talented but Luna and Artemis see right through her lie.
The next day, the girls all have fun at the festival trying out all the games and events. Anne and Alan even get dragged into participating in a fashion show by several girls who have lost their models. The both become suspicious when they discover the theme of the fashion show is "aliens" but soon realise that it's just a coincidence and go with it, happy with the knowledge that they will soon be collection everyone's energy.
As Raye begins to sing and every cheers her on, Alan summons a Cardian (without Anne choosing!) called Amphibian which soars to the stadium and begins to sprinkle gold dust onto the audience. Anne and Alan teleport away to let the Cardian do her work.
Artemis yells out for everyone to get under their seats so the dust doesn't touch them. They do but everyone else in the audience begins to pass out as their energy is leached away.
On stage the Cardian attacks Raye and wraps her up in her hair. Serena, Amy, Lita and Mina all transform and attack but are eventually caught by Ampibian's hair. Raye, who had had almost all of her energy drained lies unconscious on the stage. Suddenly the Moonlight Knight appears and makes a speech about the planet Earth and the beautiful music that is heard here. He tells Raye not to let that music be destroyed. Raye transforms into Sailor Mars and attacks the Cardian with Mars Fire Ignite but to no effect.
Amphibian, in response, thrashes her tail around and destroys Raye's music sheets that she had spent ages on composing. Sailor Mars then performs a new powerful attack, a combination of Mars Fireball Charge and Mars Fire Ignite, Mars Firebird Strike!
The powerful firebird soars through the air, dodging the Cardian's water attacks and strikes it right in it's centre, stunning it and returning all the energy to the Sailor Scouts.
Sailor Moon then finishes off Amphibian with Moon Sceptre Elimination and the concert continues with Raye singing another song, "Oh Starry Night".
Monster of the Day
Something unusual about this Cardian, Amphibian is that Alan summoned it without Anne selecting the card as had been the way for every episode so far. Not sure why it was different here. Probably "Just because".
The Cardian itself seemed to be rather resilient against the Sailor Scouts' attacks and was only really damaged by Sailor Mars' Mars Firebird Strike! and then destroyed by Sailor Moon's Moon Sceptre Elimination.
Interesting Facts
Sailor Mars' new attack Mars Firebird Strike! debuted!
The two songs Raye sang in this episode were "Call My Name" and "Oh Starry Night" both of which can be found on the Sailor Moon: Songs From the Hit TV Series CD Soundtrack.
